Pro-Ject
Heinz Lichtenegger founded Pro-Ject Audio Systems in early 1990. Being an analogue enthusiast himself, he set out to offer a simple, good value, good sounding turntable and to establish a manufacturing facility able to bring it to the World at affordable prices. In 1990 he found, in a dusty corner, at the back of a factory in the Czech Republic, that had specialized in turntables in times past, just such a solid, basic machine. The owners of the factory were surprised that he was interested in this "old" model rather than a more modern one. The simple objective he set has resulted in the creation of the World's largest manufacturer of turntables. On the other hand, the simple turntable has spawned a large range of models covering the basic through to the aesthetically stunning top models, such as the RPM 9.1X, incorporating all the latest engineering principles of turntable design.
Although the company headquarters are in Vienna, Austria the manufacturing plant is in Czech Republic, taking advantage of the lower labour rates. Pro-Ject have also introduced a range of phono preamps, both solid state and valve, headphone amps and upgraded speed controllers for their turntables. This is a company which never sleeps. It brings out a constant stream of innovations and new products to tantalize the music lover.
